Locusmap is a great app for offroad driving. Initially, I hated it because of the complexity, the standard map layout and standard arrow/cursor. Because of being color blind, I needed a high contrast map and an arrow for navigation that that is clearly visible.
In the Gibraltar Race of 2023, I would drive with my Husqvarna 701 and a Carpe Iter tablet. Therefore, I needed a navigation app that would be suitable for navigation in the Adventure Challenge formula (i.e. navigating offroad tracks using waypoints). At that time (and think still), Drive Mode Dashboard (both the regular version and the beta of version 2) did not suit my needs. However, had a great map layout.
After some practicing rounds early May 2023, I started looking at the possibilities to adapt Locus (and even develop some own software for generating gpx files). This resulted in various changes:
An adapted map layout for both the LoMaps maps as wel as for the Freizeitkarte contrast theme
A change of navigation cursor
A custom configuration of the brouter navigation configuration to generate tracks for the special stages
Custom python scripts to (a) generate routes from waypoints, (b) determine overlap of waypoints with given tracks and (c) a penalty point calculator based on the Gibraltar Race regulations (and the track that has been driven).
All have been tested by me and Dirk Mantje during the 2023 Gibraltar Race and afterwards by me and Frans Schoonderwoerd in the 2023 Alps Tourist Trophy. Frans has been doing extensive testing before the Alps Tourist Trophy which helped a lot to further tweak the map layout and especially the navigation settings (which had an accuracy of 99% for all special stages in the Alps Tourist Trophy).
